IRL… now

This is a landscape story—a beautiful family moment!

So what is going on here? A young couple is introducing their baby to one of their cows and recording it on camera. Their cow sports a headdress celebrating its return to the valley, home from pastures high up in the mountains—Alpine life.

Simple family pleasures… but only with work, work with the animals, work with the landscape, work with family—very hard work and the result? Beautiful.

  1. This is a very interesting local event that has no advertising. It occurs every fall(late summer). In the village (2,000 population) there are still dairy farmers. As the seasons progress, the farmers move their cows up the mountain side to pastures higher and higher.
In essence the cows graze tender spring grasses multiple times as they move up the slopes. The festival is for the returning of the cows to their home pastures. There is a healthy attendance from the village. The cows are decorated with headdresses. And the farmers sell the fresh cheese to village residents.
It is a party day. Probably less attended now than in the old days; but you are correct, these are the old ways.
